BCS Sri Lanka Section Committee

Dr. Gihan Wikramanayake – Chairman

Dr. Gihan Wikramanayake became the Chairman of British Computer Society (BCS) Sri Lanka Section after serving in the committee for four years. Dr. Wikramanayake is the Deputy Director of University of Colombo School of Computing. He graduated from University of Colombo and obtained his MSc and PhD from University of Wales Cardiff. He is also a member of CSSL and IEEE. He is actively involved in student related matters through National and International Olympiad in Informatics, National School's Software Competition, National Best Quality Software Awards (NBQSA) and Young Computer Scientist. He chaired last year's NBQSA judging and has been part of this judging process since its inception. He has represent BCS-SL as a judge at the Asia Pacific ICT Awards for the last four years.

Dr. Dileepa de Silva – Past Chairman

Dr. Dileepa de Silva is an IT Management Consultant who has twenty four years experience in the field of Information Technology and Engineering. He obtained a masters degree (MSc) in Engineering in 1975 and a doctorate (PhD) in Engineering in 1979. He is a Fellow Member of the British Computer Society, a Fellow Member of Chartered Management Institute of UK and a Member of the Computer Society of Sri Lanka. He has wide experience in IT, General management and Project Management. He was the past president of Sri Lanka Association for Software Industry in Sri Lanka and have served as an expert/consultant in area of ICT in many committees in the public & private sector. Dr. de Silva was the Director General Manager of the Informatics Group of Companies.

He has participated in many ICT events in various countries and represented Sri Lanka in different forums. He has been involved in implementation of large scale software development projects in many countries and contributed immensely to the development process of ICT in Sri Lanka.

Ruwan Amarasekara - Hon. Secretary

Mr. Ruwan Amarasekara has been a Chartered member of BCS and obtained his MBA from University of Sri Jayewardenepura. He has a Post graduate Diploma in Marketing and is an Associate Member of Chartered Institute of Marketing, UK. He has been an Executive Committee Member of BCS Sri Lanka Section since 2004. He was extensively involved in organising and judging activities of National Best Quality Software Awards (NBQSA) competition and was the chairman of the organising committees for years 2005 and 2006. He has over 17 years of experience in IT industry in the areas of IT Project Management, Software Development, System Integration and IT consultancy with both service providers and user organisations. He is currently employed as Business Systems Manager at SriLankan Airlines.

Niranjala Weerasinghe – Regional Manager

Ms. Niranjala Weerasinghe is a graduate from the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka read for the International Relations, Political Science and Sociology in the General Degree in Arts in 1994.

She started her first career in the Education Industry in 1996 at the Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing which is a member of the World Marketing Association and the Secretariat for the APMF. She has held different positions from Coordinator for Education Services to the Manager Marketing, Manager educational services, and the Manager Qualifications Management for nearly 5 and half years.

The knowledge I gained starting from SLIM helped me tremendously when I joined the Asia Pacific Institute of Information Technology – Sri Lanka as the Academic Administrator cum Counsellor in 2001. The responsibilities were to uplift and promote the just started Business Degree i.e. B A (Hon) Business Administration Degree awarded by the Staffordshire University UK in 2001, and to strengthen the business faculty while increasing the number of student intakes.
With more than 10 years experience in the Education Industry, my long term objective would be to serve people with high integrity probably in the same industry.

Mr. Buddhika Siddhisena, Member, ExCO

Mr. Buddhika Siddhisena obtained his B.Sc (Physical Science) from University of Colombo. He is also a Member of the British Computer Society (MBCS). At present, Buddhika Siddhisena is the Co-Founder & CTO of THINKCube Systems which specializes in Collaboration Technologies for the Enterprise. Prior to joining THINKcube, he was working as a Technical Consultant at the R&D Lab of
Virtusa (Pvt) Ltd. He has over 10 years of experience in IT, in the areas of FOSS, E-Commerce and Networking Technologies. Buddhika has also been involved through the inception of several leading FOSS projects, such as Sahana Disaster Management System and Tarprobane GNU/Linux Distribution. He is an active member of the Lanka Linux User Group and the Sri Lankan FOSS Community.

Vajeendra S Kandegamage, Member, ExCO

Mr. Vajeendra S Kandegamage counts over thirteen years of experience in Software Development, Project Management, Training, Consultancy and all related field of Information Technology. He holds professional qualification such as Australian Computer Society Examination (ACS) Member of British Computer Society (MBCS) and also holds Charted Status of British Computer Society (CITP).

Substantial part of his industry training was had at Hewlett Packard Singapore, Conrac Germany, and Seven Seas Computers UAE. Currently he handles the work load of Conrac Gmbh within Sri Lankan territory.

He has been engaged as a Consultant in management software at several leading Tourist hotels in Sri Lanka such as Tangerine, Mermaid etc. Also he is the Product Specialist for Conrac at Bandaranaike International Airport Expansion project and also the Director of InfoLink Systems Lanka Limited.

D.S Hettiarachchi, Member, ExCO

Mr. D.S Hettiarachchi aged 25 years is currently serving his third year as an Executive Council Member in the BCS Sri Lanka Section. Mr. Hettiarachchi, who is a Software Engineer by profession, joined the section soon after graduating in 2004. He holds an Honors Bachelor’s Degree from Manchester Metropolitan University of UK and a Bachelor’s Degree from University of Colombo, Sri Lanka. He obtained MBCS in 2004. Mr. Hettiarachchi works as a lecturer at Informatics Institute of Technology and in the meantime serves as Honorary Chairman of NBQSA Sri Lanka, the flagship project carried out by the section. He has over six years of industry experience and his major research interests are robotics, 3D graphics and systems programming.

M.G.Tillekeratne, Member, ExCO

Mr. M.G. Tillekeratne is a chartered member of the BCS and a chartered member of IESL. He graduated in the field of Electronics & Telecommunications Engineering from University of Moratuwa in 1978. He is currently the Deputy General Manager (Information Technology) at the Ceylon Electricity Board. He has worked as a communications engineer, Computer & SCADA systems engineer and project manager for digital microwave network project before becoming the Head of IT in the CEB and has over 28 years of experience in the field of ICT. He functions as the Chief Judge in the Panel of Judges for NBQSA 2007.

 

Nilmini Rajapaksa, Member, ExCO

Ms. Nilmini Rajapaksa holds a Bachelors’ Degree in Science and an MBA from University of Colombo and is a Member of BCS. She is currently the Deputy Director, HRD & Industrial Relations at Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka. She possess over 12 years of progressive experience in Human Resource Development, IT Project Management, Marketing, Software Engineering and Accounting. She joined the BCS Sri Lanka Section executive committee this year. She is a keen amateur photographer and nature lover, and Partner of the web portal www.zeylanica.com.

 

Mr. Stanislaus Felix Rajendran, Member, ExCO

Mr. Stanislaus Felix Rajendran holds Graduate Diploma of the British Computer Society (BCS) and is a Member of British Computer Society (MBCS). He has also completed Australian Computer Examination (ACS). He joined Ceylon Electricity Board in 1991 and is currently working as a System Operator at CEB.
