Professor Gihan Wikramanayake Elected to the Council of BCS the Chartered Institute for IT

Prof. Gihan Wikramanayake was elected to the all important Council by the member groups and the international sections at the election held on the 31st March 2011. At the very highest level, a group of elected officials is responsible for the Institute's annual direction and strategy. BCS is governed by its Trustee Board, which is in turn elected by the BCS Council, a representative body of its membership.

Professor Gihan Wikramanayake is the Director of the University of Colombo School of Computing (UCSC) and the Chairman of Theekshana the UCSC owned IT Company. He is a Director of Sri Lanka Software Testing Board and Lanka Education and Research Network and been a consultant for UNICEF, World Bank and Asia Development Bank projects.

He graduated from University of Colombo with First Class Honours and obtained his Masters and PhD in Computer Science at Cardiff University, UK. He has over 25 years of academic and industry experience with many published articles in his expertise fields of Database and e-Learning Technologies.

He is the Chairman of the BCS Sri Lanka Section and has served the section committee for seven years in addition to serving other professional bodies such as IEEE Sri Lanka Section and Computer Society of Sri Lanka.

He has been a judge for the section’s flagship ICT Awards - NBQSA the National Best Quality ICT Awards since its inception in 1998. He has been a judge at the Asia Pacific ICT Awards (APICTA) since 2003 and was one of the main resource persons in formulating the judging criteria for APICTA. He has been the Team Leader of the National Informatics Olympiad for over a decade.
